Why choose a pure sine wave?
It is often referred to as a "true" sine wave. It produces a smooth, flowing rhythm of alternating current. This type of electrical output is more or less what you get in your home and is what most appliances are designed to run on. The steady flow of power allows the PSW to provide better protection for the internal circuits and microprocessors of electronic devices, helping to minimize the risk of your appliance overheating.
Guidelines for Selecting the Right Inverter
1. Inverter size
When choosing a pure sine wave inverter, you need to make sure that the inverter you choose can cover the continuous power consumption of your appliance and make sure to account for its peak power consumption. You'll find pure sine wave inverters ranging in power from 300W to 5000W, depending on the load you need to power.
Continuous power consumption The power continuously used by an appliance to run the appliance. (Volts x Amps = Watts)Peak Power Draw: The amount of cranking power an appliance requires when it is turned on, also known as cranking watts.
Most appliances require more energy to start, and peak power draw isn't always listed on an appliance's energy label or specification label.
Example:
Home Appliances: Microwave Ovens
Power Consumption: 1200W
Starting power: 3 to 4 times
Microwaves can use as much as 3 or even 4 times their rated power when activated. Our recommended inverter for a microwave oven running 1200 watts is 2500 watts or larger.
Note: The wattage usually advertised by microwave ovens is the cooking wattage (power delivered to the food), not the actual wattage the microwave oven consumes. The above example is only an estimate, the actual wattage of the product varies by appliance, make and model, etc.
Some electrical appliances and tools with induction motors may require 3 to 7 times the rated current when they are turned on. Always check the appliance's specific wattage requirements and operating instructions first.
Other devices such as power tool battery chargers may appear to have a relatively low power consumption, but have a very high "peak power" requirement. For example, a 100W charger might require a 700W or even a 1000W inverter to cover the "peak" current. Your best bet is to ask the manufacturer to verify the surge amperage rating of the item you are trying to run.
How many watts does the average household appliance use?
This form will help you estimate your needs. Be sure to check the actual wattage requirements on the product label, and remember that many tools and appliances have significantly higher peak surge requirements for startup.
2. Match your battery system
Depending on your battery system and application, you must determine whether you need a power inverter to convert 12V DC or 24V DC battery power to 240 VAC.
If you have 24V battery system, you need to use 24V inverter, 12V inverter is designed for 12V battery system.
Can I run a 24V inverter off a single 12V battery?
No, you cannot use a 24V inverter on a single 12V battery.
Can I use a 12 volt inverter with a 24 volt battery pack?
No, you should use a 24V inverter.
3. The size of the battery
The size of the battery is one of the key components of the inverter system, and the performance of the inverter largely depends on the size of the battery. You'll want to make sure your battery has enough capacity to provide the power your appliances pull through the inverter.
If you are using a large inverter, the small battery may not be able to handle the required power. In this case, the battery will not be able to provide enough power to operate the device and the inverter will shut down.
The inverter draws power from the battery even when there is no load on it. For example, a 1500W inverter will draw about 1.5 amps per hour even without any load, so you also need to account for the power draw of the inverter itself. Basically, the bigger the battery, the more amp hours you get.
